Frequently Asked Questions
What do awards and credentials mean, and what should I look for?
The Certified Master Resume Writer (CMRW) credential is the gold standard in global resume certification. After earning the Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW) designation, a prerequisite for the CMRW, I aimed for the top and secured the CMRW on my first attempt. I also won the most competitive category (Best Executive Resume) at the TORI Awards, the international gold standard in resume writing, on my first submission.
On my second submission, I received another nomination alongside four of the world’s best resume writers from the USA and Australia, once again representing Canada in the Best Executive Resume category.
When evaluating awards or certifications, ask critical questions: Who issued them? What organization is behind them? How competitive were they? The TORI Awards, organized by Career Directors International, are fiercely contested by top writers from around the world.
What should I look for in a resume writer?
Focus on these three key aspects:
- The Owner: Ensure you work directly with the company owner. Many companies use their owners as figureheads, outsourcing your project to anonymous ghostwriters. To maximize your investment, work one-on-one with the owner.
- Employment History: Consider the resume writer’s work history. Would you rather partner with someone with limited experience or someone who has managed employment agencies, handled national and international search assignments for Fortune 500 companies, and engaged with hiring managers and executives regularly? The choice is yours.
- Certification: Look for certification from reputable associations like PARW/CC and Career Directors International (CDI). Certification serves as a baseline to filter out unqualified writers and helps you select a writer based on their expertise, industry experience, and the unique insights they bring to your project.
Do I have to fill out a questionnaire or worksheet?
No, I don’t require clients to fill out lengthy worksheets. My consulting experience allows me to gather all necessary information during our consultation. You’re paying me to do the job, and I take full responsibility for it.
Can you guarantee I’ll get a job with your resume writing service?
No. Many factors influence the hiring process, including internal candidates, market conditions, salary expectations, and personal preferences. A resume can highlight your strengths, but it’s not a magical solution. We can strategize to showcase your unique value, but ultimately, the resume’s effectiveness depends on your overall qualifications and experience.
What is your turnaround time?
Typically, I deliver within 5 business days, depending on my schedule. I also offer a rush order service at an additional cost, with a 2-business day turnaround after consultation (if available).
Do you only offer evening or weekend appointments?
No, this is my full-time profession.
Which companies have you conducted recruitment campaigns for?
Over the years, I’ve partnered with companies such as Alberta Health Services, Shell, Chevron, Encana Corporation, Teck, Fluor, IBM, Finning International, Intrawest Corporation, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Ernst & Young, Raytheon, Diavik Diamond Mines, McKesson, Cisco Systems, Honeywell International, GrowthWorks, Diageo PLC, Miramar Mining, and many more.
How do you determine your client satisfaction rate?
I work with every client until they are 100% satisfied with their resume or cover letter, within a 2-week post-consultation window. My high client satisfaction rate is reflected in client testimonials and the volume of repeat and referral business I receive.
What are your prices?
I pioneered upfront pricing in this industry. My prices are transparent and can be found here. Unlike competitors who may inflate prices based on perceived affordability, my pricing is straightforward and based on a 3-tier structure.
Do you offer refunds?
No, refunds are not offered after the telephone consultation. As a sole writer, my time is valuable, and I must be compensated for it. I will work with clients for two weeks after receiving their resume to make any necessary amendments or provide consultations on the strategy behind the content.
Why do you cost less than some writers with less experience?
Good question! When companies use terms like “our writers,” it’s often unclear who is actually writing your resume. Such companies typically have higher fees due to multiple layers of payment, including the owner and the writer. Additionally, less experienced writers may take longer to produce a document, which can lead to higher costs. I work efficiently and smartly, saving you money by not charging for unnecessary overheads.
What advantages do you offer over other writers?
Working with me provides numerous advantages. You’re not just hiring a writer; my background in recruiting and executive recruitment gives me unparalleled insights into what employers look for in a resume, job applicant, and interview. This experience is unique in the resume writing industry, and I apply it to every project, giving you a significant advantage.
I’m often asked to rewrite documents that were “professionally done” but lacked effectiveness. My experience cannot be replicated by taking an online course, and many competitors have copied my text, partnerships, and pricing policies. Why work with an imitator when you can work with the originator?
Did you write resumes as a recruiter?
Yes, absolutely! I’ve reviewed over 30,000 resumes and conducted over 4,500 job-seeker interviews as a recruiter, executive recruiter, and boutique recruitment consultancy owner. I’ve partnered with hiring companies to develop job specifications, source candidates, and conduct detailed behavioral interviews. This experience uniquely positions me to craft resumes that impress even the most discerning hiring managers.
